Denis Murphy

Denis is a highly experienced fashion and textile designer with an impressive portfolio spanning over 25 years in the luxury fashion industry. He has a diploma from the Chelsea School of Art and a Degree in fashion and textiles from Central Saint Martins. His designs have been showcased at high-profile stores across the globe, and he has exhibited his work seasonally at prestigious fashion weeks in Paris, Japan, Milan, and London. Additionally, he has collaborated on textile fashion projects with renowned designers and fashion stores such as Selfridges, Liberty, Harvey Nichols, Lane Crawford in Hong Kong, and Colette store in Paris.

Denis’s expertise and creativity have been recognised by several distinguished institutions in the fashion industry. He has partnered with The Design Museum, The Victoria and Albert Museum, John Moore, Comme des Garçons Trading Museum in Japan, and Dover Street Market in London, LA, and NY to work on various fashion projects.

Denis and Frances founded their vintage London Label FDS (For Design Sake) in 1997. Their unique style gained popularity, leading to an exclusive collaboration with Nike and Dr Martens in 2001. FDS was selected for the Young Designers show at London Fashion Week in 2002.

In 2004, they launched the label INSIDEOUT, focusing on digital printing techniques for Monochromatic Surreal Trompe l’oeil. As the INSIDEOUT creative art director, Denis helped develop the fashion collections to create a blend of early Surrealism, London Glamour, and Punk. Insideout Designs won the coveted ‘Young Designers Award’ in Berlin, as well as the Fendi ‘Best Innovative Textile Designer’ award in Milan in 2010.

In 2014, Sarah Andelman, the owner of the Colette store in Paris, invited Denis to create an exhibition of surreal artworks and a collection. In S/S 2019, they launched a new showroom, John Moore Reimagined, for Paris Fashion Week, where Denis continues to lead the creative direction of the avant-garde, post-punk do-it-yourself surreal concept into the 21st Century. His contributions to the industry have been significant, and he continues to inspire and influence designers and fashion enthusiasts alike, including recent projects with Comme des garcons Trading Museum and the heritage English brand George Cox.
